Buddhi Maya Ghale: The Woman Who Gave Padampur Its Wings

Buddhi Maya Ghale is the founder of B.M. Hastakala Prashikchhan Uddyog, a handicraft training center in Padampur. Married at 16 and a mother at 17, she turned hardship into purpose and built a movement that teaches women skills, gives them work, and restores their dignity. Her story shows that when one woman rises, she carries many others with her.

Buddhi Maya Ghale’s life began with struggles that could have broken anyone. She was married at 16 and a mother at 17, and her childhood dreams were buried under heavy responsibilities. She had few resources, few opportunities, and little hope. Her village, Padampur, shared that despair, with scarce jobs, endless problems, and many women who felt trapped in silence. Even so, Buddhi Maya carried a dream: to rise, and to help other women find their own wings.

Her turning point came when the government introduced a wool-knitting training program for women. Many joined simply to get by, but she saw a chance to rebuild lives. She stepped forward to lead, learn, and inspire others, proving that women can create their own identity even in the face of hardship.

In 2018, with the support of other determined women, she established B.M. Hastakala Prashikchhan Uddyog, a handicraft training center registered under Nepal’s domestic industry laws. A small initiative grew into a movement that teaches women skills, gives them work, and gives them dignity. Today the women of the enterprise create dreamcatchers, felt crafts, Nepali carpets, malas, dhaka fabrics, and gift items. Each piece carries artistry and also a story of resilience.

Her work has not gone unnoticed; it has earned recognition from the province, the ministry, and the Rotary Club of Nepal. Buddhi Maya turned her pain into purpose and her struggles into strength. She is now a beacon of hope for countless women in her community.
