Janaki Chaudhari is the founder of Gurau Natural Product in Ratnanagar, Chitwan. Inspired by her grandfather, a yogi who healed his community with herbs, she turns his knowledge into handcrafted herbal soaps and scented candles. She began with NPR 20,000 and now creates work and skills for the women around her.
Janaki grew up in Ratnanagar Municipality-10, Chitwan, close to her grandfather, a yogi who spent his life treating people in the community with traditional herbal methods. He understood the healing power of plants and cared deeply about the health of the skin. When Janaki grew up, she decided his knowledge should not fade with time.
After a basic soap-making training, an idea came to her: why not use the herbs her grandfather used in soap? Through steady testing and refining, she perfected natural, plant-based formulas. With NPR 20,000 saved from a food festival, she launched Gurau Natural Product.

Her creations carry her grandfather’s wisdom in every batch. Her Black Turmeric Soap blends goat milk, neem, titepati (mugwort), and Multani Mitti to soothe skin and help with acne, freckles, and dark spots. Her range also includes nourishing, vegan-friendly plant oils and butters, made with native chiuri butter, and hand-poured scented candles that bring warmth and fragrance into the home.
Resilience is nothing new to Janaki. Years earlier, she started a small snack stand with just NPR 268 in savings. With straw mats, bamboo, and whatever the land offered, she turned scarcity into a dining experience that was entirely her own, and grew it into Unique Hotel & Cottage, a business with multi-million capital.
That same spirit runs through Gurau Natural Product. She now employs 6 local workers directly and trains women so they can turn their skills into products people want to buy. Janaki believes real success comes from confidence, steady effort, and sharing what you know so others can stand on their own. Her dream is to take Nepal’s handicrafts and herbal products to national and international markets.
